Corrections and verification policy
This publication exists because compliance information circulates without sources. It would be absurd to hold that position and not publish how our own work is checked — and what happens when it's wrong.
How dates and figures are verified
Every date, dollar figure, and requirement published here is read from a primary source before it appears: the statute, the regulation, or the agency's own published form or schedule. Not a secondary summary, not another publication, and never a sister state that words it the same way. Each article carries the date its facts were verified.
Three tiers, and they can disagree.
The statute sets the obligation. The regulation often sets the mechanics the statute delegates. The agency's administration — its forms, portals, and published due-date schedules — is where an observed deadline can diverge from the statutory one, as when a filing date falls on a weekend. Where these tiers differ, we say so rather than smoothing it over.
What we don't publish
If a figure can't be confirmed in a primary source, it doesn't run — not with a hedge, not with "generally," not by analogy to a state whose statute reads the same. Unknown beats plausible. Where a question matters and the answer isn't verifiable yet, we would rather say the question is open.
How corrections work
Errors are corrected in place, promptly, with a dated correction note appended to the article and an entry logged below. Corrections are never made silently. Where a date or figure changes because the law changed — rather than because we were wrong — the article is updated and the change noted as an amendment, not a correction, because the distinction matters to anyone relying on the earlier version.
Report an error
Write to [email protected] with the article, the passage, and the source you believe controls. Citations to primary authority get the fastest response. We would rather be corrected by a reader than quoted incorrectly by one.
